Two cybersecurity experts recently discussed balancing people and process. Read what Ben Harrison, Director SOC and Security Services at Cygilant and Jake McCabe, CISSP, Presales Director at LogPoint have to say.
While your modern cybersecurity SOC and SIEM must be process driven, it also needs to be talent-led. You have a constant balancing act between people and process.
Don’t neglect your people. You don’t want to build an absolutely fantastic machine that delivers security but is so reliant on those processes that you are stifling innovation for good technical people to show their value, learn and grow.
If you go too far on the process side, you’ll have an inflexible team and program that can’t react to changes. You’ll be blindsided by the next iteration of whatever it is that comes in the door. On the other hand, if you’re extremely people-driven, if you lose key people whatever the reason, you lose capability instantly.
Let process drive your team while at the same time allowing talented individuals to lead within your organization.
